Sedation Dentistry

How great would it be to sleep through your dental appointment or simply not remember it? Or for your natural anxiety at having a bunch of people working on your teeth alleviated with a little pill, ready to go on with life normally in just a few hours? Yeah, that’s what we thought, too.

At Smile Central Valley we offer both nitrous oxide sedation and conscious oral sedation, and are more than happy to work with you in whatever way you require in order to have a wonderful experience with us. Truly, we know and understand that for the most part you’d rather be anywhere than in the practice with us, so we want to do everything we can to make it an experience worth (not) remembering:

Nitrous Oxide Sedation involves a colorless, odorless gas inhaled through a nasal mask, often known as laughing gas. We control the amount of nitrous you receive to ensure your safety. Once you begin breathing the gas, you will feel relaxed and at ease and Dr. Marvizi and the team can perform dental miracles while you rest comfortably. The effects of nitrous oxide subside once we remove your mask, so if nitrous is the only anesthesia you receive, you will be capable of driving yourself home following the visit and can continue your daily activities as normal.

Oral Conscious Sedation involves a medication taken orally prior to your visit. This method allows patients to feel relaxed while in our care, remaining conscious and able to communicate the entire time. This means you’re never “out” – you will remain fully aware and at ease during the treatment, but will most likely remember nothing of it later on (even if your appointment lasted hours, you will feel as if it only took a few minutes). Some patients become so relaxed that they fall asleep in the dentist’s chair. The effects of the sedative typically subside by the following day and aren’t like the yucky nausea you may have experienced with full sedation previously.

We’ve seen patients’ lives changed for the better with the assistance of a little modern medicine. If you suffer from any kind of dental phobia, give us a call and we’ll explain even more about Tulare California sedation dentistry and get you in here for a visit. After all, you deserve to be as cared for as anyone.
